Many Hands Make Light Work!

Many hands make light work!  These past few weekends, I was so very fortunate to witness first-hand an outpouring of support from our community to help those who have suffered loss at the hands of Hurricane Sandy. Maybe you hea
rd?!?! Turns out, because our community is AWESOME, we successfully organized the first ever "pick-up game of marathon" in less than 48 hours, and raised $10,000 in the process. After speaking with the rest of the BaseCamp 31 board of directors (the not-for-profit organization that organized the marathon in conjunction with Pro-Activity) late last night, we decided it best to split the funds evenly across the efforts down the Jersey Shore, Staten Island, and locally. But, we also received feedback from our Sandy Relief Marathon participants that they wanted to do more than just give financially...that they wanted to be sturdy boots on the ground and help where they could! And so, idea #2 was born (this one maybe slightly less crazy, but no less fast acting)....what if we took the remaining $2,500 and paid for the gas, meals, and supplies required to send members of our community equipped and stocked with supplies, into "those" communities...where many hands may make much light(er) work...and the value in human hours would far exceed a direct financial donation!.....And we're off to the races, again!

Since sending out a few email blasts and facebook posts, and having spoken to some of our vendors on the for-profit side of our business (Pro-Activity & Fuel Good Cafe) to see if they'd match our efforts....we received at least $5,000 worth of supplies shipped to our facility (HUGE thanks to Sysco foods for stepping up big time)...we organized trucks for packing...and recruited 25+ able bodied volunteers who were ready for action!

And so, we hosted a "Truck Packing Party" on Friday 11/9/12 and a caravan that sent supplies and volunteers to Oceangate, NJ on Saturday, 11/10.  See some of our most recent pictures below!

Please consider helping us to continue to get the word out about BaseCamp31 and future volunteer efforts, and join us for our "Black Friday Pot-Luck Party" where we'll be discussing more things to come for BaseCamp 31.  RSVP for the party HERE

Here's to doing something extraordinary!
